Following the 2-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield, the pressure mounted on Real Madrid and their UCL campaign. The defending champions had to save their dwindling campaign by securing a win against Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta.
As is the norm, the big guns came out to play on big European night.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side scored three against Atalanta, who had conceded just one goal in their previous five games in the Champions League. Giasperini’s side were coming into this game on the back of a 14 game unbeaten streak, winning each of their last nine games in all competitions.
With goals from Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham, Real Madrid capitalized on their moments and came away with an all important win, pushing them from 24th to 16th in the table. The attacking quartet of Brahim Diaz, Bellingham, Vini and Mbappe, all contributed to goals in this game.
Here are three standout players from the game
Jude Bellingham

Jude Bellingham is back to his usual best in the last few games, consistently coming up with big moments for Los Blancos. The Englishman has found the back of the net in five of his last six games for Madrid, scoring in each of his last four. His goal in Bergamo underlined his quality and his ability to make those runs in behind in the absence of a defined striker presence.
He was omnipresent on the pitch, offering as outlet and helping Madrid escape Atalanta’s press in their own half. His touches and close control helped Madrid retain possession under pressure. His defensive work rate and positioning also helped in dealing with Atalanta’s threat by Charles de Ketelaere.
Vinicius Jr

Vini Jr fast tracked his recovery process and returned 10 days ahead of schedule and was almost usual best on the pitch, scoring once and providing a magnificient assist for Bellingham’s goal. He scored a goal from the edge of the box with a tidy finish and was Madrid’s primary outlet along with Bellingham. His dynamic movements up front, drifting to either side and dropping deep (supported by counter movements), helped Madrid disrupt Atalanta’s defensive block.
Although there were moments where Vini’s lack of full fitness was at show but his mere presence on the field transforms this side into a much bigger offensive threat.
Dani Ceballos

Dani Ceballos has quietly proved to be a vital part in Real Madrid’s midfield dynamics over the last few games. The Spaniard with his all action nature in the middle has helped restore midfield balance and help out defensively. He was brilliant in this game, consistently recovering loose balls and helping the Vazquez in dealing with Ademola Lookman.
Ceballos’s high energy nature and ability to lunge into challenges and come away with the ball, helps Madrid’s press and also helps them in covering territory. His passing was astute as well, completing 49 out of his 51 attempted passes, helping Madrid circulate possession better in their own half.
